Local residents are known as boquerones (“anchovies”) because this traditional fishing port mainly caught this fish. These tiny, saltyfish are included in many local dishes. Fried fish are a local delicacy and also appear on many menus featuring the catch of the day.
The Feria de Málaga is a traditional cultural event and fair that is celebrated during the second week of August. The eight-day festival features activities starting in the morning and continuing all day and into the evening. Local residents dress in traditional costumes during the festival and participants eat, drink, dance, and generally make merry during this festive time.
Museo Pablo Picasso displays the famous artist’s work in the city where he was born. You’ill see more than 200 examples of his paintings on display. The Museum is in a Renaissance-style building close to the city centre. The house where Picasso was born, Casa Natal, is also situated nearby.
Take a drive in your rental car to explore Ronda, the birthplace of modern-day bullfighting. This hidden gem is situated at the top of a deep gorge that separates its “old” and “new” towns.
